Beloved Worcester man with ‘infectious smile’ inspires family fun day

A much-loved family man with an infectious smile who died after a cancer battle will be remembered at the pub charity fun day he inspired.

Rob Minton has inspired the charity fun day at the New Chequers in Astwood Road, Worcester this Sunday (May 3) which begins at noon in his memory as customers raise a glass to him and funds to fight cancer.

Mr Minton, a dad, granddad and great great granddad, of Worcester died on March 17 last year aged 71 following a battle with bladder cancer.

Now staff and customers are due to take part in a fun day to raise money for a charity which helps battle against the disease.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Action Bladder Cancer UK, and landladies, Emma Lambert and Kim McDonough have promised something for every age group at the event.

Emma Lambert, one of the landladies at the pub, said: “He was a real family man, very much family-oriented. He was loving. He was also grumpy but he was funny grumpy. He loved his John Smith’s but he had to have a specific glass and he didn’t like a John Smith’s glass. He had to have an old straight Carling glass. He knew what he liked and what he didn’t like. His laugh was infectious.”

The free entry fun day, which runs between noon and late, includes face painting, a raffle, a tombola, a bouncy castle, a DJ, a football shooter, an ice cream van and more.

Food will also be served during the event.
