RESTAURANT staff say they are deeply saddened after three pedestrians were hit by a fire engine outside the business.
Staff at Benedictos said they were ‘shocked and saddened’ after three people were hurt – two seriously – when a fire engine and car crashed outside the restaurant in Sidbury on Saturday (April 25).
The fire engine then went on to crash into a building with staff also praised for the actions during the emergency incident.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

In a statement, the Italian restaurant said: “All of us at Benedictos are deeply shocked and saddened by the incident that took place outside our restaurant yesterday.
“Our thoughts are with those people injured and everyone affected. We are especially thinking of them and their loved ones at this difficult time, and we wish those hurt a full and speedy recovery.”
The city centre was cordoned off at the traffic lights while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Staff were praised by onlookers as ‘amazing’ with one person saying they had pulled their children to safety during the incident.

“Three pedestrians were injured (Saturday, April 25) following a two-vehicle collision in Worcester city centre.

“Officers were called to Sidbury around 6pm after a fire engine and a car collided. The fire engine then collided with a building.
“Two pedestrians suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision, and a third pedestrian suffered minor injuries.
“A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.”

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson previously said: “One of our fire engines has been involved in an incident tonight in Worcester City Centre.
“We are working closely with West Mercia Police.
“Our thoughts are with all those involved.”
An air ambulance was sent to the scene and was later seen heading in the direction of Birmingham.
At the same time as the crash on Sidbury, a picture emerged of a crash on the Bullring Roundabout in St John’s, resulting in a car ending on its roof.
It is unclear at this time whether the two incidents are connected.
