Meg Larner, district events lead at Scouts Worcester, said: “It’s our annual St George’s Day Parade, which is a celebration of scouting and our patron saint St George.

“We’re hoping to have representatives from all 13 groups from across the district turn out in their uniform and parade through the city centre.

“Then, when we get to Worcester Cathedral, we will be taking part in a celebration of scouting, where we will celebrate all of our top awards that our young people can earn.

“Then we will parade back, and we are very lucky to be joined by two bands this year, the 5th Worcester Sea Scout Band, and also 216 Squadron ATC, who have kindly offered a band to us today as well.

“In terms of rough numbers, including leaders, we will have between 800 and 1000 people.

Scouting in Worcester is continuing to grow, according to the events lead.

However, more than 100 young people are currently on a waiting list due to a lack of volunteers.

She added: “We’re really lucky in Worcester that we’re constantly growing.

“Our newest group to open up, 12th, has gone from strength to strength.

“We are always looking for volunteers.

“We have a waiting list of probably over 100 young people who we can’t offer a place to because we don’t have any leaders, so we’re always looking for volunteers. ”
