A county-wide walking challenge has returned, inviting everyone to get active, explore the outdoors and connect with their community.
The Walk This May Challenge, running from Friday, May 1 to Thursday, May 14, is part of National Walking Month and offers free, accessible walks across Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
Routes range from 10 to 90 minutes long and are suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
Dr Lisa McNally, director of public health for Worcestershire County Council, said: “Walking is a small habit with a huge impact.
“It supports heart health, reduces stress, improves sleep, and lifts your mood.
“We want everyone to feel welcome to join in, whether you’re taking your first steps towards being more active or already a regular walker.
“Together, we can build healthier, happier communities.”
The challenge is led by Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, Herefordshire Council and Worcestershire County Council.
It aims to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors and build connections through walking.
Last year, participants across the two counties clocked up a total of 4,723.18 miles, the equivalent of walking the 53-mile border between Herefordshire and Worcestershire 89 times.
Stephen Brewster, chief executive of Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said: “Last year our communities walked over 4,700 miles, an incredible achievement.
“This year, we’re aiming even higher.
“Walking is one of the simplest ways to boost your health, and when we do it together, it becomes something truly powerful.
“Let’s see if we can beat last year’s total and make 2026 our most active year yet.”
All walks are held on easy ground and at a relaxed pace, making them suitable for beginners.
Routes are accessible by foot or public transport.
Participants are encouraged to share their progress on social media using the hashtag #WalkThisMay.
