Gtech founder Nick Grey to step down as chief executive officer after 25 years to return to his roots as a designer for the company at Brindley Road, Warndon, Worcester.

Long-serving Managing Director Jothie Walford has been appointed CEO in his place, having served with the company for nine years. British home appliance brand Gtech made the announcement today (Monday).

Since founding Grey Technology in 2001, Mr Grey has grown the company from a home-based startup into a household name, revolutionising the floorcare industry with the world’s first cordless power sweeper and the high-performance AirRAM range.

This strategic move sees Grey move into a new role with the firm, as he returns to his roots overseeing the company’s design arm. Operating from a new design hub in Europe, he will focus on engineering products for the brand with Gtech Global, without the responsibilities that come with being CEO.

Having risen through the ranks and steered the company’s operations as Managing Director since 2022, Jothie Walford has been instrumental in Gtech’s global expansion, and maintaining its status as a leader in the technology market.

“Having worked closely with Jothie for many years, I know there is no one better placed to lead this company. She has a deep understanding of the company, how our customers live, and how we operate.

“By handing the reins to her, I can focus my time and passion on designing products, in full confidence that Gtech is in good hands.”

Jothie Walford, Gtech CEO, said: “I am honoured to lead Gtech into its next chapter. Working alongside Nick has shaped my commitment to remembering the people who use our products and the team that builds them.

“As the company celebrates its 25th anniversary, I’m looking forward to building on his incredible legacy and continuing Gtech’s growth in the UK and beyond.”
