A 50p coin featuring a beloved storybook character has sold for more than £10,000.
The rare Beatrix Potter Mr Jeremy Fisher 50p was sold for £10,085.70 on eBay on May 13 by a seller from Cradley Heath.
Issued by the Royal Mint as part of its Beatrix Potter commemorative series, the coin has become highly prized by collectors.
It is one of four 50p coins from the 2017 collection, which also features Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten, and Peter Rabbit.

Beatrix Potter and the 50p phenomenon
The series was first launched in 2016 to mark the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth.
Since then, the Royal Mint has released at least 15 designs featuring characters from her stories.
The collection has been described by coin dealers as “one of the largest and most popular coin collections ever released in the UK”.
A new generation of coin collecting
Collectors say the coins hold cross-generational appeal, tapping into childhood nostalgia and classic storytelling.
The Beatrix Potter set has introduced many people to coin collecting, similar to the impact of the 2012 Olympic 50p series.
Its popularity has encouraged a new generation to check their change, collect coins, and discover more about the hobby.

Rarity, value, and growing demand
Most Beatrix Potter coins were minted in large quantities, but some stand out among the pack as particularly valuable.
Scarcer coins such as the 2018 Peter Rabbit and Flopsy Bunny, each with a mintage of around 1.4 million, can sell for up to £5 in circulated condition.
More valuable are Brilliant Uncirculated and silver proof versions sold directly by the Royal Mint.
These packaged editions, often including colour printing and limited production runs, can sell for significantly higher sums—especially if kept in pristine condition.
The seller of this Mr Jeremey Fisher coin did not explain why the coin was so valuable, but someone must have understood its worth to purchase it for such an extraordinary amount.
