TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Worcester City FC and Kidderminster Harriers footballer who has died.
Worcester City and the Harriers were among football clubs, including Walsall FC, that have paid tribute to former star David McDermott, who has died aged 38.
During his time with the Harriers between 2008 and 2010, McDermott featured 54 times, scoring twice as part of a promotion-chasing National League side. McDermott made ten appearances for Worcester City in 2014.
McDermott’s career included him becoming Walsall FC’s youngest-ever league debutant, when he came on as a substitute in the Saddlers’ League Cup clash with Sheffield Wednesday in August 2004.
He also represented Halesowen Town and Stourbridge.
After McDermott’s death was announced, Kidderminster Harriers paid tribute to one of their former stars.
A spokesperson for Kidderminster Harriers said: “All at Harriers are saddened to learn of the passing of former player David McDermott.
“David featured 54 times for the Reds between 2008 and 2010, scoring twice, as part of a promotion-chasing National League side.
“At this heartbreaking time, our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones.”
In a statement on Facebook, Worcester City FC said: “Everyone at Worcester City Football Club are saddened to learn of the passing of former player David McDermott.
“David had a short stint with the club in 2014 making 10 appearances and was part of the squad that faced Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time”.
