Police have made significant progress in their investigation after a man’s body was discovered inside a burnt-out car in Kinver on Thursday.
Officers were called to Sheepwalks Lane shortly after 8.20am on Thursday, October 29, after the vehicle was spotted parked in the gateway to a field.
A body was subsequently found inside the burnt-out vehicle, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The car has since been recovered from the scene and taken to a secure facility as officers carried out further enquiries.
Police have now revealed that, although formal identification has yet to take place, they believe the person who died was a man in his 20s from the West Midlands.
His family has been contacted by officers and informed of the tragic news. Police said the formal identification process is expected to take some time.

Following extensive enquiries into the incident, detectives have also said they do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Officers are now preparing a file for HM Coroner.
Detective Inspector David Rowlands, from CID, said: “I know that lots of people have been asking for updates on our investigation into this incident, which has now progressed since our initial enquiries.
“While formal identification is still yet to take place, we believe the individual who was found deceased inside the car to be a man in his 20s from the West Midlands area.
“Officers have contacted his family this morning to share the tragic news, pending formal identification which is expected to take some time.
“After carrying out extensive enquiries, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death. We are now working on a file for HM Coroner.
“I’d like to thank everyone who have been in touch to share information following our appeal.”
The discovery had prompted police to appeal for information as officers worked to establish what had happened.
With enquiries having progressed, police have thanked members of the public who came forward and provided information following that appeal.
The investigation will now be referred to the coroner as enquiries into the man’s death continue.
