AN infamous shopping centre in the heart of Evesham has been given a deep clean.
The Riverside Shopping Centre is looking much cleaner after three days of scrubbing and cleaning away debris – although some stains were so severe they could not be removed.
Since being cleaned last week, ‘a system’ has been put in place to keep The Riverside Shopping Centre clean until it is demolished.
Walking through the Riverside Shopping Centre today (April 20), Carol Hemming said: “I had my doubts when the council said they would be cleaning the shopping centre, but I have got to say it looks much better. It’s a shame that people have already decided to leave rubbish lying around. It’s a day and night difference.”
Since being cleaned nearly a week ago, pigeon dropping have since returned (although not in the same numbers), and a small amount of rubbish had been left on the floor.

Cllr Emma Stokes, Wychavon’s Executive Board Member for Resources, Investment and Innovation, said: “We promised people we would deal with the appearance of the centre when we had control, and this is Wychavon once again delivering on our commitment to the people of Evesham. My thanks go to Lee and the team from Periodic Cleaning Solutions, who have done an amazing job.
“Unfortunately, there are some areas where the staining is so significant it can’t be removed, and there is an ongoing issue with pigeon droppings.
“We will do what we can to keep the centre looking presentable while it remains open, but it may not always look as good as it does now. We will need to balance any resources needed to deal with potential future cleaning issues against the fact this is a building we will be knocking down in the near future.”
Taking to Facebook, a spokesperson for Wychavon District Council, said: “A deep clean of Evesham’s Riverside Shopping Centre has been completed.
“Huge thanks to the team from Periodic Cleaning Solutions who spent three days scrubbing built-up dirt from floors, clearing up debris and sweeping away loads of cobwebs (not to mention a lot of bird droppings).
“It’s not spotless. In some parts, the staining was so severe that it couldn’t be removed, and the birds continue to pose a challenge.
“But from the before and after pictures, you can see the massive improvement on what it looked like before.
“A system is in place to try and keep on top of cleaning issues as they occur. Our aim is to keep the building in a presentable condition until we can close the centre and demolish it.
“If you’re in Evesham today, pop in and have a look at the difference for yourself.”
