Historic family home up for auction with guide price of £230,000

A historic family home is up for auction with a guide price of £230,000.

The Victorian house is close to an historic site where landowners used to meet to discuss how to tackle local crime and it will appear in Bond Wolfe’s landmark 50th auction next month.

30 Red Lion Street in Alvechurch, a Worcestershire village just south-west of Birmingham, will have a guide price of £230,000 in the livestreamed auction on Thursday (May 14).

James Rossiter, associate director at Bond Wolfe, explained how the street is named after The Red Lion pub, which was originally occupied by a row of old cottages

Mr Rossiter said: “The site where The Red Lion now stands dates back to the 1700s and, before the existence of the police force, this was a meeting place where landowners met to discuss the activities of thieves and trespassers.

“Today The Red Lion is a country pub that offers a warm meeting place for friends and family.

“The Victorian property at 30 Red Lion Street is a two-bedroomed, semi-detached house with gardens front and back, and off-road parking at the rear via Meadow Lane.

“There is a hall, reception room, kitchen and utility area downstairs, with the landing, two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs, and gas central heating. The back garden includes a brick workshop, a brick store and outside toilet, and the property is within walking distance of Alvechurch train station.”

Alvechurch is 11 miles south of Birmingham, five miles north of Redditch and six miles east of Bromsgrove, with the attractive Lickey Hills Country Park around three miles north-west.

The Alvechurch property will be among scores of lots appearing in Bond Wolfe’s next auction which is due to start at 8.30am on Thursday (May 14).

The auction will be livestreamed via Bond Wolfe’s website with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet.
