First pupils prepare to leave Worcester’s newest school

A primary school is celebrating a major milestone as it bids farewell to its first ever Year 6 cohort.

North Worcester Primary Academy, which opened in 2019 as the city’s first free school, is celebrating its first group completing primary education.

The school began with only preschool and reception classes and has since grown into a full primary, now serving children from preschool through to Year 6.

Vicky Snape, deputy headteacher, said: “It has been a privilege to watch our first Year 6 cohort grow into confident, kind and resilient young people.

“They have been an important part of our school’s journey, and we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.

“We wish them every success as they move on to secondary school and know they have bright futures ahead.”

As part of The Rivers CofE Academy Trust, the school has focused on building a strong sense of community throughout its development.

It has expanded its preschool provision and invested in facilities, including outdoor play equipment and a dedicated forest school area.

Monica Kasperek, the longest-serving member of staff and a preschool practitioner, said: “A school is not just a place of learning, but a community where dreams are ignited and futures are shaped.

“Having dedicated many years here, I feel incredibly proud to have witnessed inspiring leadership and a creative vision that has left a legacy.

“Together, we have celebrated fantastic achievements, including pupils reaching the finals of worldwide art competitions three years in a row, alongside multiple nominations for Worcestershire Education Awards.”

Pupils have also spoken fondly of their experiences, especially the residential trips and school events.

Year 6 pupil Alexis said: “I have really enjoyed my time at North Worcester because all the teachers are so kind and encouraging and I’ve made some amazing friends.”

Parents have praised the school’s approach and the progress their children have made.

Natasha Ratcliffe said: “The school has changed since it began but the strong sense of community has remained, and my daughter has had a brilliant start to her education.”

To mark the milestone, the school is planning a series of celebrations including a leavers’ assembly, a year 6 performance, and a leavers party organised by the Friends of NWPA (PTA).
