‘UNBEARABLE’ temperatures and concerns about the health of staff and customers has forced a city centre shop to close during the heatwave.
Mr D’s Olde Sweet Shop has announced it will not open for a third day due to high temperatures making it impossible for staff to work.
In a post on social media, a spokesperson for the High Street shop said: “We have been monitoring the temperatures outside as well as in the shop and it is absolutely unbearable inside.
“For the safety of our staff and customers we will remain closed until the temperatures drop a little.”
The sweet shop had previously informed customers on Monday (May 25) that the building does not have any air conditioning, and stock would need to be taken off shelves and stored in a temperature controlled area in the store.
The Met Office is forecasting temperatures to remain above the heatwave threshold until Friday (May 29), when they will drop to a more manageable high of 24c.
