Malvern man loses 5½ stone and transforms his health

A Malvern man is celebrating an incredible achievement after losing 5½ stone, reaching his personal achievement target and transforming his health along the way.

Colin Brown joined the Malvern Slimming World group in November 2024, determined to make positive changes to his health and lifestyle. Having battled pneumonia twice and living with a number of health complications, including COPD and type 2 diabetes, Colin knew that losing weight could make a real difference to his wellbeing.

Since joining the group, which is run by consultant Tash Carter Brown at Somers Park Methodist Church in Malvern, Colin has gone on to lose an amazing 5½ stone and reach the personal achievement target he set for himself.

The benefits have gone far beyond the number on the scales. Following his weight loss, Colin has been able to reverse his type 2 diabetes. While his other health conditions have not disappeared, he has experienced significant improvements to his overall health and wellbeing.

Colin’s determination has also made him an inspiration to the people around him.

Tash Carter Brown, his Slimming World consultant, said: “Colin has done incredibly well. Watching him reach his personal achievement target after losing 5½ stone has been wonderful, but what makes his journey even more special is the way he continues to inspire and motivate the other members in our group.

“He understands that everyone has their own challenges and their own journey, and he is always there encouraging others and showing them what can be achieved. We are all incredibly proud of him.”

Colin has now become an important part of the group’s social team, helping Tash to support fellow members each week.

Tash added: “Our social team is so important to the running of the group. As a consultant, I simply can’t be in four places at once, and having members like Colin volunteering their time means we can create the warm, welcoming and supportive environment that makes our group so special.”

Colin’s fellow members have recognised just how much of an impact he has made. In 2026, they nominated him for the Malvern group’s Man of the Year, and he was delighted to be crowned the winner.

The award recognises not only Colin’s remarkable personal transformation, but the encouragement and motivation he gives to those around him.

From joining Slimming World in November 2024 following significant health challenges to losing 5½ stone, reaching his target and becoming an inspiration to others, Colin’s journey shows just how powerful determination, friendship and support can be.

For Colin, reaching his target is not the end of his journey. He continues to attend the Malvern group, support the social team and, perhaps most importantly, remind other members that their own goals are possible too.
