‘Hidden gem’ brewery tap room set to reopen in town centre with new manager at helm

A “hidden gem” tap room at a brewery in Kidderminster is set to reopen this Easter weekend with a new manager at the helm.

Fownd Brewery Tap Room, run by Fownd Brewing Company, will be reopening its doors on Hill Street after a winter hiatus at 5pm on Friday (April 3).

Sam Skinner, who is also bar manager at Weavers of Bewdley, will be taking charge of the tap room and hopes the reopening will create a “real buzz” in the town.

Mr Skinner said: “When I first moved to Kidderminster, I had no idea the brewery was even there for about two years. It is a real hidden gem and the only brewery in Kidderminster.

“There are fantastic breweries in Bewdley, but I don’t think everyone knows that Kidderminster has one too.”

The brewery was taken over by The Weavers three years ago with The Tap Room, which proved popular last year, a new project for the business.

Mr Skinner said the space might be small but they have plenty of events planned, including big screens for the 2026 World Cup, and there will be expansion opportunities in the future.

He said: “It’s a relatively small space, but there is a full sound system, a big screen and we have extended licensing for the World Cup. We also have plans to host a Bavarian evening.

“Kidderminster has a real appetite for hospitality. The Town Hall has been such a success and there are great venues opening up like The Church.

“We are really seeing a resurgence in hospitality in the town, especially with music venues like The Bear and Wolf. We really want to be part of that and add to the summer events to give the community an even bigger choice and to boost the local economy.”

Mr Skinner, who is from Kidderminster, said the opening of The Weavers of Bewdley has been a big success and the community has been “really welcoming”.

The pub offers a complimentary cheeseboard on a Sunday to raise money for local charities, including Happy Staffie Rescue and Forest Dog Rescue, with plans for the cheeseboard to also appear at The Tap Room.

Mr Skinner said: “We do run a lot of charity-based events and we’re already looking for a local charity that we can raise money for through The Tap Room. I’ve raised a lot of money for charities in my lifetime and it feels good to give back.

“We’ve already had a lot of enquiries about The Tap Room and there are some big fans of the brewery itself. Our best sellers are probably Gold Elephant Rider and King Corvex.

“I saw the photos of the venue from last year and it looked incredible, so I’m really looking forward to sinking my teeth into another venue.”
