Chamber’s behind-the-scenes work delivers results for local firms

While many businesses associate the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce with networking events, training and awards, much of its most impactful work takes place behind the scenes.

From influencing national policy to resolving local business challenges, the Chamber plays a vital role in ensuring the voice of the region’s business community is heard.

Robert Elliot, Director of Business Engagement & Policy at the Chamber, says representation is a key part of the organisation’s mission.

Acting as an independent voice for businesses, the Chamber works with MPs, local authorities and government departments to tackle barriers to growth and help members navigate complex issues.

One of the Chamber’s most significant recent interventions involved Worcester Bosch and proposed changes to the Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM).

Working alongside industry bodies and policymakers, the Chamber helped highlight the potential impact of the policy on boiler manufacturers, contributing to changes that reduced the financial burden on the sector.

At a local level, the Chamber supported a manufacturing business in Ledbury when a new roundabout design threatened to restrict HGV access to its site.

By bringing together developers, highways teams and local authorities, a practical solution was found that enabled larger vehicles to continue operating safely.

The Chamber’s influence is strengthened through its Quarterly Economic Survey, which allows businesses to share experiences and concerns. The results help inform discussions at Westminster through the British Chambers of Commerce network, while regular MP Forums ensure local issues are raised directly with elected representatives.

As businesses face rising costs and regulatory pressures, the Chamber continues to ensure Members’ voices are heard locally and nationally.
