A FAMILY business is urging the Chancellor to consider the vital role of smaller firms and the wider construction sector in the upcoming Budget.
Protex XP, located at Withy Wells Business Park near Worcester, believes targeted support could help stimulate growth, create jobs and restore confidence in manufacturing and home improvement.
Directors Sharon and Wes Rossiter are calling for policies that encourage enterprise and give homeowners the confidence to invest in their properties, arguing that family-run businesses are key drivers of economic growth.
Mrs Rossiter said: “Family businesses are the backbone of so many local communities.
“We employ people, invest our own money and build relationships with customers that often last for years.
“We would like to see a Budget that recognises the contribution smaller businesses make and gives us the confidence to invest in our future.”
She added that supporting established businesses looking to grow would be a positive step for the Chancellor.
Protex XP repairs and refurbishes exterior walls on commercial and residential properties, particularly older buildings with traditional rendering, pebbledash or spar-dash finishes.
Its spray-coating systems restore existing surfaces, improve weather protection, and extend the life of exterior walls.
The company believes there is broad potential in maintaining and upgrading existing housing stock, which could generate sustained work for contractors and the manufacturing supply chain.
Mr Rossiter said: “Britain needs more homes, and we need to look after the housing we already have.
“Both create work for skilled tradespeople, manufacturers and the many smaller businesses involved in construction and property maintenance.”
He emphasised that investment in both new builds and property refurbishment would deliver widespread economic benefits.
Mr Rossiter also highlighted the close link between construction and manufacturing, noting that every house built or refurbished generates demand for materials, products and skilled labour.
He added: “There are manufacturers supplying everything from building components to specialist coatings, and many of those businesses are family-owned companies themselves.
“A strong construction industry gives manufacturers the confidence to invest in equipment, develop their products and take on more people.”
Mrs Rossiter pointed out the importance of household confidence in driving demand for home improvements.
She said customers are increasingly focused on long-term value and want to feel assured that work will stand the test of time.
With the Budget approaching, the Rossiters hope the Chancellor will address employment costs, introduce incentives for business investment and support policies that stimulate activity across the housing market.
