A man has died after being struck by a car on the M42 as police seek to discover his identity.
The crash happened on the westbound carriageway of the M42 between junctions 3 and 2 at around 10.15pm on Thursday, triggering a police incident.
The man was hit by a silver Vauxhall Insignia and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The M42 was closed in both directions after the incident on Thursday.
Drivers faced ongoing delays on Friday at noon because the southbound carriageway remained closed although police operations were understood to have been completed by lunchtime.
Into Friday afternoon, there were 15-minute delays and three miles of congestion on the approach.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing to confirm his identity.
“The carriageway is expected to be closed for several hours and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.
“Diversions are in place.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the scene at 10.21pm.
A spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and pedestrian on the westbound M42, between junctions 3 and 2, at 10.21pm.
“One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
“On arrival we discovered one patient, a man.
“Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
National Highways said the southbound carriageway remained closed between junctions 3 and 2 due to the police-led incident, which occurred shortly before 10.20pm.
A spokesman for National Highways said: “Police investigations have been ongoing throughout the night and will continue into the morning.
“Due to the nature of the incident the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.”
The northbound carriageway has since reopened.
