A council is asking people to share their views on plans to lower speed limits.
The proposals affect Tewkesbury and surrounding areas, including Northway, Wheatpieces, and Ashchurch Rural, and are part of Gloucestershire County Council’s Safer Roads and Community 20s programme.
Gloucestershire County Council said the scheme aims to improve road safety by introducing more consistent and lower speed limits, particularly on urban and residential streets.
Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainable transport and road safety, said: “Keeping people safe on our roads is one of our priorities.
“These proposals are about reducing speeds where it matters most, helping to prevent collisions and creating environments where people feel safer to walk, wheel and cycle.
“We want to hear from local people so we can understand their views and ensure the proposals reflect the needs of Tewkesbury and the surrounding area.
“I would encourage everyone to take part and help shape the future of their local roads.”
Most residential streets under the proposals would become 20mph zones.
Some higher-speed roads approaching Tewkesbury would also see reductions.
These include the A38 from Longford roundabout through Coombe Hill, where there have been several fatalities and new housing development means more people are walking, catching buses and cycling.
Some roads would keep their existing 30mph and 40mph limits where they are considered appropriate.
The proposals form part of the first tranche of locations within the Safer Roads and Community 20s programme.
Over the past five years, 250 road traffic casualties have been recorded in the area, with 27 per cent resulting in death or serious injury.
Public engagement on the proposals is now open and will run until midnight on Sunday, October 11.
Residents can view the plans, comment on an interactive map, and complete an online survey at the ‘Have Your Say Gloucestershire’ website. Paper copies are available at Tewkesbury Library.
A pop-up event will be held at The Roses Theatre foyer on Thursday, September 24, from 10am to 3pm and 6pm to 8pm.

If there is community support a formal Traffic Order consultation will be launched in autumn 2026 with any approved changes expected to be introduced in mid-2027.
