A VILLAGE post office has closed suddenly and is expected to be shut ‘for weeks’ as an investigation is launched into new ‘Horizon issues’.
The letter has appeared on both the main door and counter of the post office in Peopleton, near Worcester.
The post office, which is signposted from the A44 Evesham Road, closed last week on August 3 according to the letter, but the shop, the Pantry, remains open.
The letter reads: “Dear Villagers, You will have noticed the Post Office was closed last week (3/8/2026) due to Horizon issues.

“The Committee has instigated an investigation into the Horizon anomalies, working with the Post Office to resolve these issues.
‘We are being gaslit and fobbed off over late post’ as hospital letter weeks late
“The Post Office advises this could take several weeks and therefore we regretfully advise the Post Office will be closed during this investigation. We appreciate your continued support for the shop which will remain open during this period, subject to volunteer availability.
In addition, Amanda is off sick due to ongoing health issues.
We are grateful for your understanding.”

Although we have as yet no details of the next step or scope of the investigation, the Post Office Horizon scandal involved a major miscarriage of justice.
From 1999 to 2015, faulty Fujitsu Horizon accounting software caused false financial shortfalls in local branches. The Post Office wrongly blamed and prosecuted over 900 innocent sub-postmasters for theft and fraud, causing bankruptcies, prison sentences, and suicides.

One villager, living close to Peopleton Post Office who did not want to be named, said: “It’s ideal for elderly people in the village and people rely on it, particularly those who don’t have transport and who live on their own.”
A woman who lived next door to the post office said: “The whole community has been impacted but there’s not a lot we can do about it.”
