It was opened as a small local nursery and garden sundries shop for the community and has since grown into the vibrant garden centre it is today.

Long queues had snaked down St Peter’s Garden Centre car park as customers helped the site celebrate its 40th birthday on May Bank Holiday this year.

What is the Garden Centre Association?

The GCA was first established in 1966 as an inspection scheme and a governing body for garden centres.

The inspections still take place annually.

The garden centre ranked 37th on the GCA’s list in 2024 and climbed 14 places to make the top 25 list.

Once a member of the GCA, a garden centre is inspected to ensure it meets standards for customer care and quality.

The Best Food Hall/Farm Shop in Midlands, Wales and West Award in 2026 was awarded to the centre via the GCA.
