A new ‘classroom of the future’ is now open and ready to inspire the next generation of learners at RGS Worcester.
The Mahjoor Innovation Centre is part of a wider programme of investment at the school and was made possible by a donation from alumnus Fasha Mahjoor, who attended RGS Worcester as a boarder in the 1960s and 70s.
John Pitt, headmaster at RGS Worcester, said: “The Mahjoor Innovation Centre represents a significant investment in the future of learning at RGS Worcester.
“We are incredibly grateful to Fasha Mahjoor for his generosity, vision and continued connection with the School.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Fasha and his family back to RGS Worcester to open the Centre which bears his name.”
Mr Mahjoor, who became an architect and later an entrepreneur in the USA, returned to the school for the official opening.
The ceremony coincided with a major global education summit hosted by RGS Worcester, welcoming educators and school leaders from around the world.
The Innovation Centre, six years in the making, is the result of a collaboration with TaskSpace, who design learning environments for leading universities and schools.
Designed as a flexible, multi-purpose learning space, the centre supports project-based work, presentations, independent study and cross-curricular activities.
It also serves as a venue for staff development, educational partnerships and special events.
Mr Pitt said: “This inspiring space has been designed to encourage collaboration, creativity and innovation, helping our pupils develop the skills and confidence they will need for the future.
“It is a space to be used both by pupils during lesson time and by staff at breaks and lunchtime, which is a unique idea demonstrating how we all work together at RGS for the benefit of all.”
Mr Mahjoor said: “Innovation begins with curiosity, but it flourishes when young people are given the confidence to explore, create, and dream.
“I hope this Centre helps inspire generations of RGS pupils to do exactly that.
“This Centre is simply my way of saying a massive thank you.”
