Co-working space signs up 100th member and says ‘just getting started’

A coworking space reaching a milestone says it is just getting started.

The Kiln, based in central Worcester and located behind the Guildhall on Copenhagen Street, has signed up its 100th member.

Launched in 2019, the not-for-profit coworking hub has steadily grown into a thriving community of freelancers, remote workers, startups, and established businesses.

Greg Smith, co-founder of The Kiln, said: “What started as the simple idea to get local business people in a building together and see what happens has quietly grown into one of Worcester’s most supportive business communities.

“We’re very excited to sign up our 100th member and see our friendly community continue to grow.”

Members work alongside one another, sharing ideas, making connections, and solving problems together in a collaborative environment.

The Kiln’s 100th member, Russell Wall, said the sense of community was the deciding factor in joining.

He said: “There were a few factors in my decision to join, central location being one, and its unique set up as a locally-run CIC another—I much prefer supporting local businesses.

“However, the main reason was its community.

“Running a remote team as I do can be quite isolating, and talking via a computer screen really can’t compare to a simple ‘Good morning’ from real and likeminded people within a proper working environment.

“I feel I have settled in at The Kiln and, having only recently moved to the area, I look forward to meeting people and growing a new network here in Worcester.”

The Kiln recently expanded into the neighbouring building to add six more offices and continues to offer flexible workspaces.

Hamish Gill, co-founder of The Kiln, said: “Coworking at The Kiln has never just been about desks and Wi-Fi, it is very much about community; a place where networking occurs naturally without the awkward name badges or one-minute elevator pitches, where collaborations emerge mid-conversation, and where local businesses grow alongside one another, not in isolation, but together.

“100 members in, The Kiln is still locally owned and managed, still proudly not-for-profit, still community-led, and still just getting started.”
