New heatwave warning as Met Office extends alerts in Worcestershire

ANOTHER spell of extreme heat is on the way after a forecaster revealed it has extended its heatwave warning in Worcestershire.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning covering Friday following red alerts in Worcester today and tomorrow.

Temperatures are expected to exceed 30 °C in many areas, with central and eastern parts of England possibly reaching highs of 38 °C.

The main areas affected by the extended heat warning will predominantly be East Worcestershire, including Evesham.

Overnight on Friday, temperatures are forecast to remain unusually warm, staying in the high teens or low 20s.

A gradual change to cooler conditions will begin from the west, but the east and southeast will continue to see very warm weather into Saturday.

Current red alerts in Worcestershire

There are currently two red extreme heat weather warnings in place for today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday). 

Residents are likely to see a two to three-day period where maximum temperatures in the shade exceed 37 Celsius, perhaps rising to 38 to 40 Celsius in some places.

Dozens of schools and businesses across Worcestershire have closed as a result.
