Two homes in Powick were evacuated after a fire spread at a housing estate on the hottest June day on record.
Flames were spotted rising from a garden on Crown View, Powick, just before 3pm on Wednesday (June 24).
One resident, who did not wish to be named, has warned about the risks of fires starting unexpectedly in gardens during the heatwave.
They said: “The fire service said it could have been batteries or anything outside in the garden that caused it”.
While a lot of damage was caused to the garden, including a fence, no one was hurt.
The resident added: “Obviously, it is better to lose belongings than people. It is all things that can be replaced.”
In a post on Facebook, Malvern Hills Police said: “Officers from Malvern ‘D’ shift discovered a fire close to houses in Powick shortly before 3pm today, Wednesday 24th June.
“They acted quickly in evacuating two addresses.
“Unfortunately, despite officers initially trying to put out the fire with an extinguisher from their police vehicle, due to the extreme weather conditions, the fire continued to spread until the fire brigade arrived and extinguished it
“However, due to the quick response of the officers and the prompt arrival of the fire brigade, no one was hurt. Fire investigators are currently on scene to identify the cause of the fire”.
