Flexible transport service records 80,000 journeys in a year

Worcestershire’s flexible transport service has completed over 80,000 passenger journeys in the past year.

Worcestershire on Demand, an app-based service, has been growing in areas where traditional fixed-route services are less feasible.

Initially launched as a pilot in Bromsgrove in 2021, the service now covers large parts of the county and is a key component of the local transport system, with almost 24,000 app downloads so far.

The service allows for real-time journey booking, dynamic routing, and live vehicle tracking within specific zones, enhancing the fixed-route bus network and aiding first and last-mile travel.

The council has reported consistently high user satisfaction, with the service maintaining an average passenger rating of 4.8 out of 5.

Worcestershire on Demand’s success comes during Better Transport Week, a national campaign celebrating sustainable travel and better connectivity, aligning with the service’s goals.

The service’s growth and popularity highlight its increasing importance in rural network design, offering a flexible alternative where traditional transport models struggle.
