A NEW chippy ‘with a twist’ is preparing for its grand opening on Monday.
Cod City, which has already began its soft launch, will official be opening up in Worcester on Monday, June 22.
The opening follows three months of preparations, converting the former site of Bullring Chippy in St John’s for the opening.

Owner Mohammed Taleb is hoping Cod City will be different from its competitors due to its wide offering, alongside the traditional chippy menu.
“This location was a fish and chip shop for 25 years so we thought the best concept here is to do another fish and chips, with a bit of a twist,” he explained. “With the doner, spicy doner, barbeque doner, we’ve got burgers, paninis, wraps.
“There are more options on the menu for the customers to try.

“If people were here for the fish and chips before, we still have that. But we also have other items on the menu for them to try. We have still kept it like the original fish and chip place but we’ve added extras for them to try.”

The Worcester Cod City is the fifth location within the expanding franchise.
Two existing locations exist in Birmingham, one in Sheffield, one in Wolverhampton, and there are plans for a sixth in Dudley, to follow the Worcester joint.
“The official opening date is the 22nd (June), the Monday coming and it’s 30 percent off,” added Mr Taleb.
“We have a high hopes that it will do really well with the people of Worcester. We will just aim to serve them good food and see what happens.
“(We’re) really excited. We’ve spent three months decorating the whole shop so hopefully it pays off.”

HISTORY: The site was previously Bullring Chippy prior to its sale (Image: Google Street View)
Bullring Chippy had been operating from the location last year until the former owner – listed as Lohia Muskan on Companies House – put it up for sale, citing visa rule changes as her reason for selling.
It had been a fish and chip shop for almost 25 years, while Miss Muskan had been running it for six months at the time of putting it on the market.
