Extra police called to Three Counties Show after child goes missing

EXTRA police were called to the Three Counties Show after a young child went missing.

The five-year-old girl went missing, while attending the second day of the event at Three Counties Showground in Malvern on Saturday (June 13).

Her parents alerted PC Dave Olczak and PC Wayne Waldron, who were patrolling the showground, and showed the two officers a photograph of their child.

While details were taken, showground staff were made aware and extra police officers were drafted in to search for the girl.

West Mercia Search and Rescue, who had a stall at the event, also quickly got involved in the search.

Malvern Hills Police confirmed that she was found “safe and well” a short time later.

After several hours, PC Olczak and PC Waldron were made aware of a second missing five-year-old. He was soon found near to where he had wandered off.

“The little boy was found swiftly, very close to where he had wandered off,” a Malvern Hills Police spokesperson said. “He was happy as Larry looking at the tractors.”

Police advise how to keep children safe

Following the two incidents, officers have provided advice to parents on how to keep your child safe at large events like the Three Counties Show.

They praised the parents of the young girl for having taken a photograph of her just before entering the venue.

“The parents had the foresight to take a photo of their daughter prior to entering the showground today, something that we would highly recommend parents do when ever going out with their young children,” a spokesperson said.

In the event that a child does go missing, officers have reminded parents that the event has a dedicated missing child team, meaning parents can speak to staff on site if they have concerns.

The Three Counties Show is a ticketed event taking place at the showground from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14.
