HOLIDAY lets could soon appear above a city centre bar if plans to transform flats are given the green light.
The Conservatory owner JT Holdings Worcester Limited has proposed transforming the flats at 34 and 36 Friar Street, situated above the bar, into two short-term holiday lets for people visiting the city.
The change of use will also see some changes to the interior of the flats.
Jack Tompkins, managing director of JT Holdings Worcester, wrote: “Since we purchased the building in September 2025, the flats have not been used as we have no use for the manager to live on site and we have no need to use the flat above 36 as the office and storage anymore, due to this being a waste of prime residential space.
“Due to Friar Street’s immense history and character, we best see the use of these spaces as short-term holiday lets, which we envisage to help out the local economy of the whole street.”

While the second floor of the flats will remain unchanged, the first floor will see alterations which will decrease the floor space in each flat, while adding extra commercial space which backs onto the bar’s garden.
The flats themselves would be accessed by a door between The Conservatory and the Tudor House Museum.
This lobby currently only provides access to 36 Friar Street, while 34 Friar Street is accessed by a door at the back of the bar.

Mr Tompkins said: “We do not wish to rent the flats as standard rental units due to our main business of the building being the bar.
“We do not wish to have full-term tenants above the commercial property, and this has not been the case for decades, so we do not see that the change of use will effect any existing housing stock requirements to the local prospective residents of Worcester.”
