Drivers face parking fines as new sign goes up outside primary school

DRIVERS now face parking fines outside a primary school in Malvern.

A new sign has gone up, ordering motorists not to stop on the road markings outside Great Malvern Primary School on Lydes Road.

It comes after a number of parents were repeatedly parking on the zig zags, prompting concerns from the police for the safety of children at the school.

PCSO Kevin Tudge said these parents had continued to park in the marked areas, despite being told not to.

“Given that there were a few parents showing no regard for the children’s safety by continually parking on the zig zags directly outside Great Malvern Primary school, despite being advised not to do so, I liaised with Councillor Malcolm Victory and Councillor Marilyn Birks, in order to help obtain a traffic tegulatory order from Worcestershire Highways,” PCSO Tudge said.

“Clearly the safety of the children is paramount. I would like to thank Cllr Victory and Cllr Birks, for helping to obtain the ‘no stopping at anytime’ signs, which are now in place outside the school.”

Cllr Victory, who represents Malvern Chase on Worcestershire County Council and Barnards Green on Malvern Hills District Council, said he was pleased to see the signage finally being put in place.

It means that fixed penalty notices can now be issued to anyone who parks on the zig zags.

“I am pleased to have been of help with this positive action, which will go some way to helping keep Children safe, on arriving and leaving the school,” he said.
