Residents at a retirement village have raised more than £600 for a children’s hospice through a year of community fundraising.
The money was raised by a group of 39 residents and 15 staff at Mount Battenhall Retirement Village in Worcester between spring 2025 and spring 2026 in support of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
The charity was chosen as the village’s charity of the year, a tradition that forms part of its commitment to supporting the wider community.
Tom Newitt, head of marketing at Freedom Living, said: “Supporting Acorns Children’s Hospice has been something our residents have always felt strongly about.
“The work Acorns does for local families is extraordinary and it has been a privilege to come together throughout the year to raise funds for such a worthy cause.
“We are incredibly proud of what our residents and team have achieved together and we look forward to continuing to support our local community in the years ahead.”
Funds were raised through a series of events including a raffle at the Spring Open Day, another at the Summer Garden Party, and a Christmas fayre featuring stalls run by local traders.
During the festive season, residents and staff also took part in Christmas Jumper Day at the village bar.
A cheque was presented to Charlotte and Fae from the Acorns care team by Clare Davies, general manager at Mount Battenhall, and Mr Newitt.
Mel Hall, community partnerships manager at Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “We are deeply grateful to the residents and staff at Mount Battenhall Retirement Village for their support over the past year.
“It’s heart-warming to see such community spirit and money being raised for Acorns.
“The funds raised will go directly towards our vital care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and support for their families in the most difficult of times.
“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone – your kindness makes a real difference.”
Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support for children with complex needs and their families across the West Midlands.
