McDonald’s launches new ‘drink of the summer’ from next week

A new iced drink will be coming to McDonald’s and the fast food chain says it will be ‘the drink of the summer.’

Customers will be able to get the new Vanilla Matcha Frappé in all restaurants across the UK and Ireland next week.

The drink brings matcha green tea flavouring together with sweet vanilla.

It’s blended with ice and topped with cream, bringing a new sweet and creamy twist on the classic matcha.

McDonald’s to launch new ‘drink of the summer’ next week

Customers can buy the Vanilla Matcha Frappé for £3.69 (medium) from Tuesday, June 2.

The new frappe will join McDonald’s other two summer drinks on the menu – the Raspberry x Sprite Zero mixology drink and the Pineapple x Sprite Zero flavour, both available for £2.29.

The UK’s favourite takeaways

The raspberry mixology is a combination of Sprite Zero with a sugar-free raspberry-flavoured syrup, while the pineapple flavour is Sprite Zero with a sugar-free pineapple-flavoured syrup.

A Frozen Cherry Lemonade is also available for customers to enjoy for £3.09 (medium).

Or you can try the Chocolate Honeycomb Frappé (£3.69), which is a chocolate-flavoured frappé, topped with cream and honeycomb pieces.

In April, the boss of McDonald’s in the UK vowed to keep investing in restaurants and staff despite tough “headwinds” forcing many firms to cut costs and trim their workforces.

Lauren Schultz, chief executive of McDonald’s UK & Ireland, told the Press Association that the group had kept its hiring levels in the face of soaring wage costs, with between 70 and 130 staff still employed per restaurant.

But she said difficult trading conditions were putting pressure on companies.

She said: “It’s hard to do business right now.

“Whether down to the consumer, or the number of competitors out there.”

She added: “In this headwind-rich environment, people who run businesses not the way we do might contract and pull back to manage costs.”

But she added that “cost savings never lead to growth”.

She continued: “When you invest in your people… you drive better business outcomes.”
