Tributes paid to Stourport ‘legend’ after reports of his death

Tributes have been paid to a Stourport “legend” with a “pure and funny soul” following reports of his death.

There was an outpouring of love and condolences after it was announced yesterday (Tuesday, May 19) by a friend on social media that Steven Richards had died.

The announcement on What’s Going On In Stourport described him as a “beautiful, pure and funny soul with a massive heart.”

Steven, who was well known in the Stourport area as Stickman Steve, was often seen frequenting the town with a stick balanced on his head.

Stickman Steve was also well known in the Hereford and Worcester areas.

Following his death, hundreds of tributes have been shared on social media with many expressing their sadness at the loss.

HCW Professional Wrestling said: “HCW are very sad to report the passing of Stourport legend Stickman Steve.

“Steve came to HCW at The Civic and was very much a friend of the show. Our condolences go to his family and friends.”

Riverside fish and chip shop also shared their “heartbreak” at the news.

The team said: “We at Riverside are heartbroken to hear that one of our local people has sadly passed away. Stourport will never be the same again.”

Cheryl May Southall said: “What heartbreaking news to hear. Known to many as Stickman Steve, the conversations that were had with him, I knew he struggled yet such an intelligent man.

“He wouldn’t hurt a fly, he just needed understanding and support. Fly high angel. Gutted.”

The We love Stourport past and present Facebook group also shared their condolences.

They said: “On behalf of us all, our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this incredibly sad time.”

Others on the social media post, including Mark Steele, described Stickman Steve as a “lovely man”.

Lisa Anne Homer said: “Devastated. Steve was and always will be one of the nicest and kindest people I had the pleasure to know.”

Louise Farley said: “Such sad news. He had a heart of gold.”
