Care organisations across Worcestershire rely on volunteers, survey finds

Care organisations across Worcestershire are relying on volunteers to help deliver vital support services.

According to the Government’s Community Life Survey, 18 per cent of people in the county volunteered formally at least once a month over the past year.

This trend is especially visible in health and care settings, with 55 volunteers contributing a total of 1,168 hours to Herefordshire & Worcestershire Health & Care NHS Trust in the last quarter of 2025—a 41 per cent increase on the same period in 2024.

Ansvar Insurance is drawing attention to the data ahead of Volunteers’ Week (June 1-7) to highlight the growing contribution volunteers make across the care sector and the importance of ensuring they are properly protected.

David Eccles, head of distribution at Ansvar, said: “Volunteers play a vital role in supporting care organisations and community services across Worcestershire – over 1,000 hours given in a single quarter is remarkable.

“While that support is invaluable, it’s important organisations have clear safeguarding procedures, appropriate risk assessments and suitable insurance arrangements in place, both to protect volunteers and the people they support.

“Volunteers’ Week is a timely reminder that valuing volunteers also means protecting them, and the people they support, properly.”
