A new book by a local author exploring happiness and wellbeing is already topping charts ahead of its official release.
Make Life Happier, published on April 23, is written by Dr Mark Williamson, co-founder and director of the global Action for Happiness movement, and draws on 15 years of work in the field of wellbeing.
Dr Williamson, who grew up in Malvern, said: “It’s more than a book title, it’s really an invitation to join a global movement of people who are choosing to live differently.
“People who recognise that happiness is not just a personal quest but a collective good which can enrich our communities and our world.”
The author attended Malvern Parish School and The Chase before earning a B.Eng and PhD from the University of Bristol and beginning his career in engineering.
The book encourages readers to carry out their own ‘happiness experiments’ to discover what practices work best for them, from silencing the inner critic to contributing to their communities.

Dr Williamson dedicated the book to his late father David Williamson, who died in January.
He credited his father for giving him ‘an engineer’s mind-set’ and showing him ‘how to be both strong and gentle’.
The book has already reached number one on UK book charts in the Self-Help, Well-Being and Popular Psychology categories through pre-orders alone.
It has received high praise from public figures and wellbeing experts.
Broadcaster Dr Sian Williams said: “A realistic how-to guide full of helpful tips and tools.
“If you want to feel happier and make the world a better place, read this book.”
Sir Anthony Seldon said: “At a time of anxiety and division, Mark Williamson offers something rare: a wise, practical and deeply humane guide to living better and helping others do the same.”
Professor Sir Geoff Mulgan said: “Mark distils essential lessons from both research and practical experience in a book devoid of clichés, pat solutions or pseudoscience.”
Fitness coach Joe Wicks also praised the title.
He said: “I love this.
“Full of helpful and practical ways to bring a little more joy and happiness into your daily life.”
